Profile Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes Ratio

The intestinal flora of humans has a significant influence on weight development. About 90% of intestinal bacteria can be assigned towards two major bacterial groups, the group of "Firmicutes" and the group of "Bacteroidetes". Firmicutes can split indigestible carbohydrates like cellulose and the body can therefore ingest more energy from the diet than people who are dominated by bacteria of the phylum Bacteroidetes.

By determining the Firmicuten/Bacteroidetes ratio appropriate therapeutic measures can be initiated and an increase in weight can be counteracted.
