Molecular diagnostics of infectious diseases

The constant progress of medical biology and new molecular methods have enabled our Department of Microbiology to develop a large panel of new techniques for the diagnostic of infectious diseases. Numerous viruses, bacteria and parasites can currently be detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

These new tests are grouped together as part of diagnostic profiles; the pathogens being selected based on symptoms or clinical indications.

  • Detection of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV DNA High Risk, HPV genotyping, NEW test! HPV E6/E7 mRNA)
  • Diseases related to Human Herpes Viruses
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), RNA-quantification
  • Liver diseases caused by HBV and HCV (quantification and genotyping)
  • Parasitic gastroenteritis
  • Rash and fever
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Viral gastroenteritis
  • Viral meningitis
  • Viral ocular infections
  • Viral respiratory infections

Enclosed you will find a list of all the viruses, bacteria and parasites that can now be detected by PCR.
